mplayer (and ffplay, part of ffmpeg package, when compiled with config option -"-enable-libopenjpeg") can play it. (as these are very big images *and* JPEG-2000 compression (hard to decode-on-the-fly at video framerates) you'll either drop frames, play slow, or need a very fast machine 8-)

the .avi wasn't 100% imagined to be playable by all right out of the gate.
it is solely a lossless AVI wrapper around jp2 images as a better alternative
to a totally unplayable corresponding .zip file of jp2 images
(which is what the item starts out as).

so that is, we are altering the container a bit in a lossless way, allowing some players to be able to play it, realizing that not all players will be able to play it yet.
